Colt is an attorney and an associate in the Kansas City office. He has over a decade of experience in structured settlements, insurance, finance and tax law. While having a broad based understanding of the financial services industry, Colt specializes in structured settlements, life insurance and annuity planning, tax planning, and personal asset management.
He was a co-founder and Principal of a prominent settlement annuity firm in Kansas City before joining National Settlement Consultants. His legal and insurance career began with the law firm of Polsinelli, Shalton and Welte where he concentrated his practice in the areas of insurance regulation, finance and tax law. Subsequent to his time with the Polsinelli firm, Colt became a financial planner.
Colt’s responsibilities include developing settlement annuity plans and presenting them at mediations, arbitrations and settlement negotiations. He applies his financial, tax law & structured settlement experience to each case, and develops comprehensive settlement plans for injured parties. He is able to provide educational information and answer questions claimants and their attorneys may have about structured settlements. He analyzes life care plans and vocational rehabilitation reports and projects future loss of earnings and lifetime medical awards and judgments. In addition, he handles all necessary functions in finalizing settlement documents to ensure that the structure is properly executed. His responsibilities extend to developing new clients and maintaining client relationships. Colt conducts seminars for clients on using structured settlements to resolve personal injury and workers’ compensations cases.
He is a member of the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA). Colt is a licensed life insurance agent, a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), and holds the Series 6, Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65 certifications for securities products with the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).
A native of Kansas City, Colt graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He then received his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law where he was Associate Editor of the Kansas Law Review.
